Drama - King Henry VIII School

Drama

Extra-Curricular Drama is a popular, fun and enthusiastic activity at Henry’s. Co-curricular Drama offers unique opportunities for students to creatively explore themselves, their contexts and their communities. Drama promotes active engagement with the stories of others, and encourages empathy and understanding.

Each year we perform two productions, a senior performance in the Autumn Term and a lower school performance in the Summer Term. Each year, one of the performances is a play and the other is a musical, created collaboratively with our Music department.

Our recent performances have included:

Senior PerformanceLower School Performance
2023-2024A Christmas CarolBeauty and the Beast
2022-2023HairsprayKing Matt
2020-2021Sweeney ToddHigh School Musical
2018-2019Les MiserablesThe Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
2017-2018Romeo and JulietLittle Mermaid
2016-2017Into the WoodsGreek Mythology Olympiaganza
2015-2016The Great GatsbyThe Lion King

Our most recent performances have been exceptional. As with all our productions, rehearsals and preparation starts two terms in advance of the final performance and requires high levels of commitment.

Drama Club

Drama Club is an activity that seeks to encourage a student’s interest in the dramatic arts through a practical approach and through participation, rather than competition. Students are encouraged to be creative and imaginative in a non-threatening environment and perform in areas of improvisation, scene and script work.

House Drama

Each year we also have our House Drama Festival in which each House must produce a 20 minute drama performance. This is entirely student led, meaning that the students choose the play, run the audition process, organise and lead rehearsals before directing and producing the final performance. The event each year is highly entertaining and the standard superb, with Houses this year choosing ‘Shrek’ and ‘Cinderella’, all in 20 minutes of course!!!
