Music

BKHS King Henry’s Prep has a thriving music department with the majority of pupils learning a musical instrument from our huge team of visiting music teachers. In addition, we have choirs, orchestras and several chamber ensembles.
We work closely with our team over in the Senior School on joint projects, music trips and ventures with our Spring Concert at the Warwick Arts Centre being the highlight.
There are presently over 200 music lessons taking place each week and last year many children took and passed ABRSM Music Examinations. The levels being achieved range from Grade 1 through to Grade 6!
All instruments are available for children to learn and these include:
Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Harp, Guitar, Drum kit, Recorder, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Cornet, Trombone Piano, Singing, Music Theory.
As well as having classroom music lessons (Nursery to Year 6) and whole-school singing practice each week, Year 3 and 4 also have a timetabled choir session during the week, and there are also many clubs, choirs and ensembles. Groups vary from year to year, but the below gives you an idea of what is currently running at school.

Year 5 and 6 Chamber Choir

Regular performances take place throughout the school year, including the Annual Carol Service at Coventry Cathedral, our Harvest Festival, Year Group productions, Tea Time Soloist concerts at both Swallows and Hales sites, and various other concerts, talent shows and performances.
We also have a bi-annual international residential when the Choir and Orchestra travel overseas, giving performances most recently in Austria and Germany.
Lessons happen during the school day on a rotation basis to avoid students regularly missing the same class lesson. Individual teachers will inform students and parents the lesson times. Students who have lessons on more than one instrument can have one lesson at a fixed time.
