Extended Studies
In the Sixth Form, a period a week is allocated to an enrichment activity in both Year 12 and Year 13.
In this section
In year 12, these activities have a predominantly educational theme and students have a wide variety of options. Some of which includes…
Young Enterprise Scheme
This allows them to start up a real company, with real share capital and compete with other local schools.
Young Engineers
A very prestigious group where a team of four a five students work with industrial engineers on a current engineering problem. They learn about the engineering process, build a prototype of their design and presenting a report to an expert panel.
The Coventrian
A small team also work on producing the school magazine The Coventrian. This involves a real journalism experience, conducting interviews, going through the editing process, photography and graphic design.
A range of other activities is also available including Beginners Italian, Philosophy and Website Design. All activities are intended to complement and stretch the students beyond their chosen A level subjects.
In Year 13, the emphasis of the activities subtly shifts to provide a more recreational activity, which is designed to relieve the stress of their final year and provide a little mental health slot for the week. The activities offered by staff are widely varied, with something for everyone.
The most popular course is Cookery. However many of other courses tempt the pupils’ curiosity such as African drumming,, Circus Skills, Yoga, Beginners Guitar, and Strategic Board Games. In addition, some more serious option are also offered including Interview Skills, which is run by the Headmaster Mr Dearden and a certificated First Aid Course.
