The Spark Mindset
In this section
What is the ‘Spark Mindset’?
The Spark Mindset is the intellectual character we instil in our students to enable them to be the best and most successful person they can be, both academically and in the wider world.
What are the intellectual characteristics which make up the Spark Mindset?
The four intellectual characteristics are:
- Creativity
- Aspiration
- Curiosity
- Persistence
Who is involved in the Spark Mindset?
Everyone, students, staff and parents! We recognise that learning should be a challenge and thus set no limits on what we think our students can achieve and do!
We know our students’ strengths and their barriers to learning so we implement a range of strategies in the classroom to ‘raise the bar’ and engage every student towards their full potential.
How do students achieve or reach the Spark Mindset?
Students are engaged in a great variety of different activities both in and out of the classroom which allow them to develop each of the four intellectual characteristics. Teachers award sparks (Housepoints) and send postcards home to students when they are successful in these attributes. Students who consistently achieve all four characteristics have reached the Spark Mindset.
What happens when a student reaches the ‘Spark Mindset’?
Students who are successful in developing each of the four intellectual characteristics are invited to participate in events and activities that allow them to continue to develop their intellectual something.
What type of Spark Mindset events are there?
There are events in all curriculum areas, as we realise that our students have different ‘sparks’ in the different areas of school life. Our students may find themselves participating in a national science competition through the Bright Ideas STEM Challenge or participating in a Pro Corda Chamber Music Workshop. There is something for every student across the curriculum.
