Oxbridge Success
We’re delighted to announce that Maja and Felix are Oxbridge bound.
We are so proud of Upper Sixth pupil Maja who has received an offer to study Law at Girton College, Cambridge. Maja came to the UK aged 8 from Łódź in Poland, speaking no English. She joined King Henry VIII School aged 12 with a substantial bursary and is also an Academic Scholar. Maja’s journey to Henry’s started when it was suggested to her mother that she would be able to get a scholarship here, a hand delivered letter on the final day of applications duly followed and Maja has thrived at King Henry’s since. She will be the first in her family to go to a UK university. Her journey to law was equally serendipitous but central to the story is Mr. Lovell, the Head of Law and Head of Year 13. He is according to Maja “a great teacher” and encouraged her over a long period of time including through the school Law Society.
Felix has received an offer to study Physics at Brasenose College, Oxford. He is Currently studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Latin and his offer is A* A A. Felix is a double Academic Scholar. He has a special mention for Mr. Blake and his passion for teaching, indeed he recalls a lesson where Mr. Blake explained how a fire in a mine can be controlled to cause a convection current that can provide clean air to the mine.
Congratulations to both of you – we are very proud.
