Life at The Grange - King Henry VIII School

Life at The Grange

Education begins in our Little Explorers Nursery after your child turns three although children can join us at any time where spaces are available.

Nursery and Reception

Our highly skilled staff are dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where your child can be happy, grow in confidence and begin their learning journey with us. The relationships we build with children lie at the heart of our successes, allowing us to plan learning opportunities that centre around your child’s passions and interests.

Alongside the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework we create a robust curriculum for our children to make great strides in their progress and achievement. Our staff are well-trained, experienced and passionate about teaching in the early years.

LITTLE EXPLORERS NURSERY

Nurturing curiosity and early skills

Little Explorers Nursery offers a rich, stimulating and secure learning environment where we encourage children’s natural curiosity and enthusiasm. Teaching supports children in their first steps towards numeracy, reading and writing.

The Nursery classroom is bright, colourful and airy and is designed to spark interest, drawing each child into imaginative play or creative and critical thinking.

Children make use of our extensive outdoor learning spaces every day which includes six acres, a dedicated Forest School area, a vegetable patch and chicken coop.

RECEPTION

Fostering creativity in small classes

Our reception classes are designed to provide a secure and stimulating environment where children can build a strong foundation for future learning. Inspirational staff encourage our children to be good communicators and to develop problem-solving techniques.

We believe that children learn in a variety of ways; through their senses, through investigation, experimentation, watching and listening, social interaction, questioning and exploring.

Our small class sizes allow us to closely support each child with their learning, encouraging them to progress at their own pace and support them as they embark on their journey with us.

Years 1 and 2

In Key Stage 1, we nurture a vibrant learning environment where every child can flourish. We encourage them to be confident and become independent, starting with everyday tasks like unpacking their bags, choosing their lunch and accessing the right equipment to support their learning.

Careful transition from Reception to Years 1 and 2 ensures that your child’s learning continues apace with small class sizes which are crucial to support all children in a broad and balanced curriculum with a strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy.
