Inside the Classroom
In this section:
We provide a dynamic and nurturing learning environment where every child is encouraged to grow academically, socially and creatively. Our approach blends structured teaching with child-led exploration, fostering independence, curiosity and a love of learning from the earliest years.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
In the Early Years, children are encouraged to become creative, critical thinkers. They are given the opportunity to plan their own learning and independently select appropriate resources, fostering autonomy and confidence. Our carefully designed curriculum supports development across all areas of learning, both inside the classroom and in our purpose-built outdoor learning environments.
Year 1
As children progress into Year 1, the curriculum becomes more structured while remaining broad, balanced and engaging. Whole-class teaching is complemented by small group work and personalised support, ensuring every child is appropriately challenged and nurtured according to their individual needs.
English
English is taught through a rich and varied programme that includes phonics, reading, writing, speaking and listening. Children are introduced to a wide range of texts and genres, developing both a love of literature and the skills needed to communicate effectively. Creative writing, drama and storytelling are all embedded within the curriculum to spark imagination and build confidence.
Maths
Maths is taught daily and in a highly interactive and practical way. We focus on developing a strong understanding of number, pattern, shape, space and measure through hands-on activities and real-world problem-solving. Lessons are carefully structured to ensure progression, with plenty of opportunities for children to practise and consolidate their skills.
Children are encouraged to explore mathematical concepts using concrete resources before moving on to pictorial representations and eventually, abstract thinking. We support mental maths development and fluency in number facts, including number bonds and times tables, through engaging activities and simple weekly homework tasks.
Creative Curriculum
Children enjoy weekly lessons in Art, Computing and Design Technology, all taught in specialist spaces designed to inspire creativity and innovation. They are introduced to a variety of techniques, tools and media, and learn to observe, record and communicate their ideas with increasing independence and confidence.
Drama plays an important role in our curriculum and is integrated from the earliest stages of learning. Children take part in improvisation, storytelling and role play, enhancing their communication skills and creative thinking. Drama is taught within English lessons and is also available as part of our co-curricular offering. Our annual Christmas performance is a much-loved highlight of the school year.
Music is a vibrant and joyful part of school life. A specialist music teacher delivers weekly lessons in our dedicated music room, where children are encouraged to explore rhythm, pitch, song and instrumental play. From group singing to playing percussion instruments, children build their musical skills in a fun and engaging environment.
