Year 7 Information Hub

The move from Year 6 to Year 7 is an important and exciting step in your child’s King Henry’s journey. Whether your child is already with us or joining from another school, this booklet is designed to help you understand what’s new and what to expect as they enter Senior School.

Welcome to King Henry VIII School

We are really looking forward to seeing your son or daughter thrive as they begin their journey with us.

We understand that moving up to senior school can bring a few nerves – for both children and parents. That is why we have put together an A-Z Guide, packed with helpful information to answer any questions you might have.

We hope you find this guide helpful but please do not hesitate to contact us should you have further questions.

Our Enhanced Induction Programme

Our enhanced induction programme ensures your child feels excited and confident about joining King Henry’s in Year 7 and well and truly integrated into the community by the time they reach the October half term break.

Primary school visit

In the Summer Term, a member of the senior team will visit your child in their primary school setting to get to know them in the environment they feel most comfortable.

Summer Term induction day

Your child will be invited to join us for a day in school. This will be the first opportunity for them to meet their peers and teachers ahead of their start date in September. They will take part in lessons and other fun activities, experiencing their first real taste of senior school life at Henry’s / Bablake.

September induction day

In September, Year 7 pupils start a day earlier than the rest of the school. With the entire campus to themselves, they receive a more in‑depth overview of senior school life and enjoy a thorough tour so they can navigate confidently from lesson to lesson from the get‑go.

“Break the ice” Residential

With the first few weeks of term Year 7 pupils go on a residential trip to break the ice, make new friends and grow their independence.

Peer mentors

Your child will be buddied up with a peer mentor from Year 9 or 10. Our older pupils are the best support system in those early days – they have been in your child’s shoes and understand the nerves and excitement that come with joining a new school and starting Year 7. They help fill gaps in knowledge and can offer continued support and guidance throughout Year 7 and beyond.

Integration programme

We have designed an integration programme that ensures your child has met every member of their year group through a series of engaging, cross‑curricular activities. Rather than only seeing the same small circle of classmates, pupils are encouraged to connect widely, helping them build confidence, expand friendships and, ultimately, find their tribe.
