Junior School: Outside the classroom - King Henry VIII School

Outside the classroom

At King Henry VIII Junior School, learning and discovery don’t stop when lessons end. Our pupils enjoy a rich variety of sports, creative opportunities and extra-curricular activities that help them build confidence, discover new passions and develop skills for life.

Sport

Sport is an integral part of school life. We believe every child should have the chance to get involved, to develop their ability and to experience the pride of representing their school.

All pupils have weekly PE lessons, taking part in a wide range of activities including basketball, short tennis, badminton, dance and movement, athletics and ball skills. Our sports fixtures programme gives children the opportunity to compete against other schools locally and regionally.

We are fortunate to have excellent facilities, including a large sports hall, swimming pool, gym and climbing wall, as well as outdoor tennis and netball courts, astroturf pitches and extensive playing fields for rugby, rounders, cricket, athletics and football.

Music

Music plays a vibrant role in our school community. Alongside weekly music lessons, pupils are encouraged to learn a musical instrument, choosing from a wide range including strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, piano, guitar and voice.

Specialist teachers provide instrumental tuition, and children have many opportunities to perform in ensembles, choirs and concerts throughout the year – including the exciting chance to perform at the fabulous Butterworth Hall every other year. Music helps our pupils develop creativity, discipline and a lifelong love for the arts.

Clubs and Activities

Our vibrant co-curricular programme runs before school, at lunchtime and after school, offering over 45 clubs and activities. These include Art, Languages, Chess, Sports, Dance, Music, Creative Engineering and much more.

With such variety, every child can discover new interests, develop skills, build friendships and grow in confidence and creativity.
