Junior School life - King Henry VIII School

Junior School life

At King Henry VIII Junior School, we place the happiness and wellbeing of every child at the heart of all we do.

Our aim is to ensure that each pupil can flourish, academically, creatively and personally, whether through classroom learning, sport, the arts or the wide range of co-curricular opportunities we provide.

Form Tutors

The heart of our pastoral care

When your child joins King Henry VIII Junior School, they will become part of a small, supportive class of boys and girls of varying abilities. Each class has a dedicated Form Tutor who will get to know your child as an individual – their strengths, passions and areas for growth.

Your child’s Form Tutor will be your main point of contact for both academic progress and pastoral matters. We believe a strong partnership between home and school is vital, with open, honest communication at its core.

Learning Support

Helping every child to shine

Our specialist Learning Support team works closely with class teachers to remove barriers to learning. For pupils who need extra help, we create carefully tailored Individual Support Plans that address both academic and personal development.

Through close collaboration with parents, we ensure that every child feels supported, valued and able to reach their potential.

Enriching learning through trips and visits

From inspiring day trips to exciting residential experiences, educational visits are an important part of life at King Henry VIII Junior School. We plan trips that link closely with classroom topics and spark curiosity – from visits to Coventry Cathedral, the RSC in Stratford, Warwick Castle and Bletchley Park, to hands-on science at Think Tank in Birmingham.

Older pupils enjoy outward-bound residentials that build resilience, teamwork and independence.

The House System

Building friendships and team spirit

Every pupil belongs to one of our four Houses from the moment they join us, remaining a proud member throughout their time at King Henry VIII School. Our House system offers a rich variety of competitions and activities – from hockey, netball and athletics to chess, art, music, drama, reading and cookery.

It is a wonderful way to make friends across year groups, try new things and celebrate achievement together.

Wraparound care

Supporting busy families

We offer flexible wraparound care to help busy families, extending the school day from 7.45am to 6.00pm. Early morning supervision is available from 7.45am, providing a calm start to the day before lessons begin.

After school, children are supervised on the playground from 3.40pm to 4.00pm, ready for collection. From 4.00pm to 5.00pm, a wide range of after-school clubs and activities are available. Clubs run by King Henry’s staff are free of charge, while those led by external providers may carry a small fee.

From 4.00pm to 6.00pm, our Aftercare Club offers a safe and welcoming space with refreshments and support for homework. A small hourly charge applies for this service.
