Exciting opportunity in Physics
Congratulations to Mara who has gained a place on the The XMaS Scientist Experience 2024. This nationwide opportunity, ran by the University of Warwick, is for female Year 12 Physics students, to take part in an all-expenses paid trip to the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France.
Year 12 student Mara had to write three essays as part of her application process, one on “What science is Dame Jocelyn Bell-Burnell (Physicist who discovered pulsars) famous for and what is her impact on physics today?” another on the ESRF facility and a final one on why the trip was important to her and what it could do for her future career.
Mara says “As a girl taking A Level Physics, it is sometimes difficult to be confident in myself, so I am really excited to meet research scientists who perhaps had the same doubts and hear about their careers in the material sciences. I am also really looking forward to seeing the ESFR and the facilities where fascinating, innovative research takes place.”
Mara will head to Grenoble in July where she will meet amazing scientists and get a taste of what life would be like as an international research scientist.
