King Henry VIII Students Celebrate Excellent A Level Success

Students at King Henry VIII School are celebrating another year of excellent A Level results, with the Class of 2026 achieving outstanding academic success and securing places on a wide range of university courses, degree apprenticeships and professional pathways.

This year’s cohort achieved a 100% pass rate, with 70% of all grades awarded at A*-B and 36% at A*-A. Students also excelled in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), where an impressive 61% of grades were awarded at A*. Across the year group, students achieved 18 A* grades.

Headmaster Richard Sewell praised the achievements of the students and the wider school community:

“Today we celebrate the hard work and dedication of our students, staff and parents at King Henry’s. We are very proud of the results achieved by our students after two years of intense study and commitment.

These results reflect not only academic excellence but also the resilience, determination and ambition shown by our students throughout their time in the Sixth Form. We are delighted to see so many students progressing to exciting destinations, including competitive university courses and sought-after degree apprenticeships.”

Among the many success stories this year, five students will go on to study Medicine at university. These include Saira, who will attend the University of Birmingham, Edwin, who is heading to Cardiff University, and Sara, who has secured a place at Keele University, alongside Angie and Rayan.

Students also achieved success in a variety of other fields. Millie achieved A*, A*, A and an A in her EPQ before securing a highly competitive degree apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce. Mary achieved A*, A*, A and will study Engineering at the University of Warwick, while Matilda achieved A*, A*, A and is progressing to Warwick to study English Literature.

The school is particularly proud of Mary and Lily, who have been recognised by Cambridge OCR as two of the highest-performing Art students in the country. This national recognition highlights both their exceptional talent and the strength of creative arts education at King Henry VIII School.

Beyond their academic achievements, the Class of 2026 has played an important role in school life, contributing to the wider community through leadership, service and co-curricular activities, helping to shape the vibrant culture of the Sixth Form.

Reflecting on the results across the Coventry School Foundation, Chief Executive Officer Gordon Smith said:

“These results are just reward for the hard work of our students, who have been wonderfully supported by our incredible staff teams at Bablake and King Henry VIII Schools. With 40% of all grades across the schools at A* and A, and large numbers of A* grades across a wide range of subjects, these results demonstrate the strength and breadth of our schools’ academic offer.”

As students prepare for the next stage of their journeys, whether at university, on degree apprenticeship programmes or entering employment, everyone at King Henry VIII School extends its warmest congratulations and wishes them every success for the future.
