The Application Process
PRE-PREP (AGES 3-7)
Applying to King Henry VIII Pre-Prep
The main entry points into our Pre-Prep are Nursery (age 3+) and Reception (age 4+).
Should you be moving into the area or changing schools, we can accommodate mid-year and mid-term starters where there are places available. Please contact the Admissions team on 024 7627 1190 to find out about availability.

We will talk you through the Admissions process and answer any questions you may have.
Stay and Play: Join us for our FREE Stay and Play sessions – the perfect chance for your little ones to play, make new friends and have fun, while you relax with a hot drink and a friendly chat. Sessions run every Wednesday during term time from 9.30am to 10.30am and are suitable for children aged 2 to 4. Step 2 – Apply
Please complete our application form and send it our Admissions team along with your £90 incl VAT registration fee and your child’s birth certificate and passport.
Step 3 – Offers
Offers will be made verbally in the first instance and confirmed in writing shortly afterwards.
Step 4 – Accept the place
To accept the offer of a place, please return the Acceptance Form and pay the £540 incl VAT Acceptance Fee.
Once you have formally accepted the place, we will be in touch with all the information you need to ensure that your child’s start at Pre-Prep is happy and straightforward.

JUNIOR (AGES 7-11)
Applying to King Henry VIII Junior School
Children who join King Henry VIII Junior School start in Year 3.

Step 2 – Apply
Please complete our application form and send it our Admissions team along with your £90 incl VAT registration fee and your child’s birth certificate and passport.
Step 3 – Taster Days and Assessments
We invite children to come into school to for a half day visit during which they will have short assessments in Maths, Reading and Writing. Children can also spend the rest of the day with their prospective classmates and teachers. This is a great opportunity for your child to experience life at King Henry VIII Junior School.
Step 4 – Offers
Offers will be made verbally by the Head in the first instance and confirmed in writing shortly afterwards.
Step 5 – Accept the place
To accept the offer of a place, please return the Acceptance Form and pay the £540 incl VAT Acceptance Fee.

Year 7 ENTRY
Applying to Senior School
The majority of children join King Henry VIII School in Year 7. Prospective pupils sit our entrance exam in November, the year before they join us in the following September.

Key Dates for September Entry 2026
- Entrance exam will be held on Saturday 15 November 2025
- Deadline for applications is Friday 31 October 2025
- Offers posted on Friday 5 December 2025
- Acceptance deadline is Friday 6 March 2026

Step 2 – Apply
The deadline for applications for Year 7 entry in September 2026 is Friday 31 October 2025.
When you complete your child’s application, we require a non-refundable application fee of £90 (including VAT) along with a copy of your child’s full birth certificate, passport and last school report.
If you wish to apply for a scholarship or bursary please indicate this on the application form. Further information regarding scholarships and bursaries can be found on our scholarships and bursaries page.
Step 3 – Entrance Examination
We hold our entrance examination in November each year. This year it will be taking place on 15 November 2025. Prospective pupils will be required to sit the exam with papers in English Comprehension, English Composition and Mathematics.
The exam takes place in small groups, with a member of staff and our Sixth Form Prefects, so that your child feels supported on the day. We always begin with an ice breaker and fun activity to ensure that your child feels at ease and ready to start with confidence.
Step 4 – Offer
Offers will be posted on Friday 5 December 2025.
Step 5 – Accept the place
For those offered a place, your confirmation of acceptance with a deposit of £540 incl VAT is required to secure the place by Friday 6 March 2025.
Once we have confirmed your acceptance, you will receive information on our Year 7 Welcome Programme.

12+, 13+ AND 14+ ENTRY
Step 1 – Apply
Parents are asked to complete the application form and return as soon as possible if places are available (please confirm directly with the Admissions team).
The Entrance Examination date will be confirmed by letter once an application has been received.
Step 2 – Entrance Examination
Entry will be by exam, in English Comprehension, English Composition, Mathematics and Reasoning (for those applying to join Year 9, there will be an additional Science paper).
Step 3 – Offers
Offers will be made verbally by the Head of Admissions in the first instance and confirmed in writing shortly afterwards.
Step 4 – Accept a Place
To accept the offer of a place, please return the Acceptance Form and pay the £540 incl VAT Acceptance Fee.

SIXTH FORM ENTRY
Applying to Sixth Form
We usually recommend 5 GCSEs at grade 6 or above, with grade 7s preferred in those subjects being taken at A Level. This is to support our students in achieving their fullest potential.
Some subjects require a grade 7, including Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics. Further Maths requires a grade 8.
For subjects that are new at A Level, such as Law and Business, specific grades are required at GCSE in subjects which have related skills. In addition, students who want to study four subjects at A Level must have an average of at least 7.5 across all GCSE subjects.

Step 2 – Apply
Complete our application form online. All candidates are asked to submit a personal statement along with GCSE predicted grades.
As part of our Sixth Form intake we also have scholarships and bursaries available, which you can find on our scholarships page. Please indicate your interest on the application form and further information will be sent to you.
Step 3 – Interview
Applicants will be invited to visit the School after the application deadline, where they will be interviewed by the Head.
Step 4 – Offers
Conditional offers are made following interview.
These offers are conditional upon GCSE grades achieved the following August. We ask that you contact us as soon as you know your results. Upon acceptance of a conditional offer students are invited in to our Sixth Form Induction Day held at the end of Summer Term.
Step 5 – Accept the place
Once you have formally accepted a place, we will be in touch with all the information you need to ensure that your child’s start at King Henry’s is happy and straightforward.
