A fantastic evening of rugby all round
A fantastic evening of rugby at Coventry RFC saw Bablake 1st XV retain the Mike Hibbert Memorial Shield after a hard-fought 28–17 victory over King Henry VIII 1st XV.
Despite the result, our 1st XV produced an outstanding performance, combining power, structure and composure throughout. Captains Fred and Teddy led superbly, and both were immensely proud of their players, who gave everything for the badge. It was a brilliant spectacle of schoolboy rugby played in great spirit, with Henry’s demonstrating real resilience and pride in their performance.
Earlier in the evening, both the U13A and U13B teams delivered excellent performances, recording well-deserved victories against two strong and committed Bablake sides.
The U13B team showed great determination and teamwork to secure a thrilling win after a closely contested match. Their hard work in training over recent weeks was clearly evident in their improved skill execution and game understanding.
The U13A team also rose to the occasion, playing with structure, intensity and confidence. Their continued development this half term was clear to see as they combined strong defence with clinical finishing to seal an impressive victory. The team has great potential and is really taking shape for the years to come.
Reflecting on the evening, Director of Sport, Mr Jonathan Fitt, said:
“I’ve been so pleased with the development of rugby across the school this term. The players in Years 7–10 have really focused in training and are pushing their learning and understanding of the game to new levels. Our senior squad has grown together and continues to play with heart, pride and a real sense of togetherness. It’s been brilliant to see the progress and commitment from every age group.”
Overall, it was a fantastic evening of rugby for King Henry VIII School – full of passion, teamwork and pride in the badge.
