King Henry VIII School Marks 50 Years of Co-Education with Inspiring “50 for 50” Exhibition
King Henry VIII School proudly celebrated a historic milestone this September, marking 50 years since the school first welcomed girls to join its community. To honour this occasion, the Old Coventrians’ Association, in partnership with the school, launched the “50 for 50” exhibition, a powerful tribute to five decades of co-education.
The exhibition showcases the stories of women who have passed through the School’s doors over the past half-century, highlighting their achievements across careers, families, communities, sport, education and beyond. Through portraits representing each decade, as well as a growing digital “scrapbook” of photographs, reflections and memories, “50 for 50” celebrates both the successes and the challenges overcome by generations of pupils.
Head Mr Sewell reflected on the importance of the exhibition, saying:
“This exhibition is as much about giving everyone a voice as it is about celebrating achievements. We hope that current pupils, alumni and the wider school community will see themselves reflected in these stories and feel inspired by the remarkable journeys of those who came before and after them.”
The exhibition, which opened in September, will remain on display around the school throughout the anniversary year, with opportunities for alumni to contribute further memories and experiences.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us at the launch event and to all who have already shared their stories. Your contributions have made “50 for 50” a truly meaningful celebration of our shared history. We look forward to adding even more voices as the year continues.
